Are Your Curious Why You are Hungry?

Emotion causes many of our actions. Are you more motivated to act when you feel hungry or full?

Human nature is sometimes hard to understand, but very interesting: There is no system in place restraining our calorie consumption. But, if you feel hungry you just have to eat. Hunger seems to rule many other emotions required to survive. This made a lot of sense in the Stone age, where people had to outlast in periods of little to no food. Nowadays,, it is extremely challenging to lose weight permanently because of all of the fast food restaurants at every turn.

Hormone alterations often begin taking place when you are over 40, and the feelings of hunger are sometimes more extreme. Do you understand how your body creates the feelings of being hungry?

There are two systems in place in your brain that require balance in order for you to lose weight over 40: The calories you put in your body, and the amount of energy available. If the energy useable in your body drops to a certain level, feelings of "hunger" are produced and you then think of eating. This is not weakness of character, it’s normal.

There is a difference between feeling satisfied and feeling full. As you know, after 40 your body burns less calories- so you should eat until you feel satisfied and stop eating when you’ve reached that point to lose weight permanently.

Interestingly enough, we commonly finish eating before our bodies absorb the nutrients in the foods. The feeling of being satisfied comes mostly from how much time you take to eat and how often you eat. To lose weight permanently, eat more slowly and increase the amount of meals you eat.

However, you must be conscious of what you eat. Watching TV, driving or reading while you eat will distract your mind, and it won't register that you are eating. This will cause you not to realize when you are satisfied, and you will end up eating more, which will threaten your attempt at permanent weight loss.

Neuropeptide Y and numerous other substances signal the brain that you need to eat. Neuropeptide Y is one of them. It makes you feel hungry, inhibits physical activity and increases the amount of energy stored as fat. If you stop eating, for example when you go on a diet, Neuropeptide Y is released.

This is why you find it tough to lose weight permanently, and sometimes feel like your energy is low: When you ingest less food, your endocrine system protects your body fat. This protection continually increases after 40, and the only way to lose weight permanently is by implementing a gentle lifestyle concept.

There are many more Neuropeptides contributing to feeling hungry. For example, Orexin A and B are released when feeling hungry and cause overeating and food cravings- the usual consequence when on a diet. So this is not a lack of will power, it’s the nature of your body.

Leptin is another Neuropeptide that is developed by fat tissue. It transmits to your brain how filled the fat storage system is. Women have more body fat than men by nature and correspondingly higher levels for Leptin. If the Leptin level drops below a certain point, you’ll start to feel hungry.

Unnaturally thin celebrities influence the body image we have in western culture greatly. A certain amount of body fat is actually healthy, and without it you’ll feel hungry day in and day out, causing all kind of emotional troubles.
